Green Juice or Smoothie?

Green juices (and smoothies) became very famous nowadays as a source of vitamins and
antioxidants. And I believe that they deserve the attention received.

They are the best way to eat raw food, which contains enzymes that act as catalysts for detoxification and absorption of nutrients. In some alternative medicine treatments, certain raw vegetable and fruits are used as cancer-fighting foods. Green leaves are the best source of alkaline minerals, fiber, have calming properties, and are a reliable source of chlorophyll.

After learning all that I decided to give it a try with raw food and I must admit it was not the best taste I ever tried. I am not a huge fan of eating raw broccoli and didn’t even want to try. So, I went to raw green juices and smoothies. Once aware of so much good that it would bring to my body, I kept on drinking every day. After a week I was already loving it.

The difference between a juice and a smoothie is merely the machine that makes it: we use the juicer for the first, and the blender for the later.

  1. The juice contains no fiber and are high in nutrients, since there are no fibers all the nutrients and antioxidants are immediately absorbed by the body.

  2. The smoothie contains lots of fibers and therefore takes longer to be absorbed; releasing energy in a continued way. Due to the fibers you feel full for much longer.

Some recipes I like are:

  • Cucumber, lemon, kale

  • Kale, lemon, broccoli, tomato

  • Beets, ginger, berries, lemon

  • Celery, cucumber, apple

  • Kale, apple, lemon, ginger

METHOD

Any mix is nice. I use coconut water, normal water or almond milk. Sometimes I add a spoon of maca or bee pollen, or any superfood I have at home.

I strongly recommend not to put sugar in it, so you don’t spoil the goodness in it. And always remember when eating raw food: it must be organic!

You won’t feel well after drinking a juice full of pesticide.

Enjoy!
